The GROUND principles live in Stockholm
On the first of October 2008 the children in the socially challenged suburb Tensta in Stockholm got a KOMPAN GROUND. The manager of the play workers in the area, Eva-Britt Leander, tells: “We are constantly looking at how we can improve and enhance the physical activity of young people in their everyday life. In Tensta only very few young people take part in organized sports and activities. This is why we need an open access varied area close to home for them.”
The children are thrilled about the new play area with the many varied activities. The electronic equipment in KOMPAN ICON is new and exiting. Eleven year-old Alexandra Eleftheriadou from 5th grade of the nearby Elinborg School says: “It is almost like a computer game but you get much more exercise.” Ten-year-old Isha Rishi adds: ”You get physical exercise and have fun at the same time.” She prefers the climbing without the gaming part. But Ali feels the exact opposite: ”I have the high score – 99 points!” Their sports teacher, Rainer Ahlvik finds that the play equipment offers an alternative for the young people who are otherwise hard to get interested in sports. Another teacher, Åsa Gustafsson emphasises: The children get used to team play in these surroundings and that trains their ability to cooperate.”

The area contains a KOMPAN FREEGAME ball court, an ICON digital play installation, a big BLOQX climbing structure and a COROCORD net structure. For the youngest children a KOMPAN Storymakers, a Blazer seesaw and a swing are installed.
