Do teenagers play?

A Capacent Epinion survey of 1040 13-16yearolds stated that “many different activities” in an outdoor place for young people would be the most important feature to the respondents, closely followed by “many young people”. 55 % answered that some playgrounds are attractive to them and their friends, and 46% answered that it is fun to be physically active in a playground.

58% of the respondents stated that they would like more outdoor places for youth. They found trim trails and swings the most popular activities closely followed by climbing equipment and ball courts.

The play that teenagers do might not have the evident role play character that is found among younger players doing pretend and fantasy play. But the social interaction, the play and gaming activity that they enjoy in relevant play areas for them, is basically all about the same: playing to grow, socially as well as physically, emotionally as well as cognitively – and not least creatively.
