Background
What do we know about young people?
Young people today are not nearly active enough. This results in a lack of fitness, overweight and a low level of satisfaction. However, young people actually want to be active. A study conducted by Epinion Capacent on behalf of KOMPAN expresses the strong desire of young Danes for outdoor activities with their friends. These young people – and especially the girls – find, however, that their options are limited. Read more about Epinion Capacent'survey on behalf of KOMPAN.
Young people are often overlooked in town planning, despite the fact that many cities have a growing population of below 20-year-olds in the community. The creation of facilities to inspire young people to engage in playful physical activity is not considered a priority – partly because local authorities often find it difficult to match the group of 10–15-year-olds with facilities appropriate to their age.
The KOMPAN Play Institute has studied different solutions for young people and interviewed people who have had success in creating active spaces for young people in their communities. What they have in common is that they meet young people’s needs and can be integrated into a modern urban culture.
The KOMPAN Play Institute’s website about young people is constantly being updated with new knowledge and information about experiences. If you have experiences to share, we’d love to hear from you. Send an e-mail toKOMPANplayinstitute@kompan.com. |
