User opinions
A study conducted by Epinion Capacent for KOMPAN sends a clear signal about what it takes to get young people to be more active: improved outdoor facilities. Thus, 37% of girls regard this as the primary motivating factor. 55% of 13–16-year-olds consider playgrounds to be attractive places to hang out, while 46% believe they provide a setting for physical activities.
But specifically what facilities do young (13-16-year) people want?

Climbing

Spinning

Skater

61% of boys and 72% of girls mention obstacle courses. 86% of girls indicate swings. 47% of boys want skater parks compared to 16% of girls. Spinning devices were requested by 36% of girls and 25% of boys. In summary, 19% of 13–16-year-old girls say they are physically active in playgrounds, while boys are more comfortable on football pitches and in sports facilities.
In Epinions Capacent’s surveyon behalf of the KOMPAN Play Institute, many of the young Danes also say they prefer places within cycling distance of where they live. They are unanimous in saying that there are not enough outdoor spaces where they can be physically active. One exception is the “football boy”, who has no trouble finding places to be active!
